The design bridges 2,500 years of Iranian history. The obverse features the Tachara Palace at Persepolis—the ceremonial capital of the Achaemenid Empire and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The reverse highlights the South Pars Gas Field, one of the world’s largest natural gas reserves and a cornerstone of Iran’s modern economy. This contrast between imperial grandeur and energy infrastructure makes the note uniquely symbolic of Iran’s dual identity.
This note is one of the few in the world to juxtapose an ancient archaeological site with a modern industrial asset. Because of this, it offers a compelling narrative about national identity in the 21st century. Therefore, it’s ideal for collectors of archaeological-themed currency, energy infrastructure on money, or modern Middle Eastern banknotes. Pair it with our Iran 100,000 Rials UNC note (Tomb of Saadi) or explore all issues in our Iranian Rials category.
